Pam Porter
Pamela Cherie (Porter) Lower was born June 8, 1943, to Mary (Millichamp) and Donald Porter of Harrisburg Pennsylvania. She lived with her mother and paternal grandparents during World War II while her father served in the European Theater.
After the war, they moved to Lansing, Michigan where she was raised with her brothers, Robert and Donald. Pam was a graduate of Eastern High School class of 1960 and attended Michigan State University.
In 1963, she married John Earl Lower of Lansing, Michigan. They adopted two children, David Lower and Susan (Lower) Ferguson; both consider themselves to have essentially won the “lottery of life” by having such wonderful parents. John and Pam were married for 62 years; he predeceased her by almost 4 months exactly, in late September 2025. Pam left us on January 30, 2026.
Pam believed in charity and volunteered countless hours in the Lansing area. She answered phones for WKAR, was an active member of the Junior League of Lansing for many years, was President of the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing, organized work-days at Rayner Park in Mason with The Friends of Rayner Park group, and worked as a docent of the Mason Historical Society.
Pam served her Eastern High class of 1960; elected an officer of her sophomore class, elected to Student Council and years later as Treasurer of the class’ Reunion/Events Committee.
Pam loved her family, gardening, and playing bridge with friends (not necessarily in that order). Unfortunately, she leaves an empty seat at the bridge table, but the flowers and trees she planted will continue to bloom.
No one who knew her will forget her exuberant, infectious laugh, nor her distinctive red glasses and passion for red wine.
Pam will be dearly missed as a friend, a beloved parent and grandparent, and as a trusted bridge partner.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 14 from 11am-3pm at The Hidden Gem Venue at 4230 Charlar Drive, Holt, MI 48842.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Mason Food Bank or WKAR.
