George Oxendale

George Ellis Oxendale, 78, of Mason Michigan

Passed away in peace, on January 10, 2020.

George was born in Lansing Michigan on September 8, 1941 (the same month and day as his mother)  to Ellis and Pat Oxendale.

George was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1960.  George was a proud Quaker, running Cross Country, Track and Basketball.  George set several school records in Cross Country and Track; records that stood for many years.  George remained very close with his classmates throughout the years and cherished their close connection. 

George worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation where he retired after 40 years of dedicated service. 

George was also a proud member of the Michigan National Guard.

George married Janet Hamlin, his loving wife of 54 years, in 1966.  They settled in Mason where they raised two wonderful boys.

George was Happiest when he was active.

George loved living in the country and had an undying passion for the outdoors.  He could always be found on his tractor working in the yard, helping neighbors.  If he had to be indoors he enjoyed watching the many birds and deer that visited our yard. 

For years he participated in fitness events and continued to run. George was an avid bowler whose 1994/95 season average of 278 was the highlight of his bowling league years.  Later in life George enjoyed playing the accordion.  George and his accordian entertained regularly at several area retirement and nursing homes. 

George was a member of the Holt Baptist and South Baptist Churches.  Through church the Oxendale family established many lifelong friendships.  George left behind many wonderful memories of travel, family outings, sporting events, dinners and game nights.

George was predeceased by his parents Ellis and Pat Oxendale.  He is survived by his loving wife Janet, sons Christopher (Josie) of Valparaiso Indiana, Michael (Candice) of Mason, Grandchildren Cassandra (Ryan) Regan, Chelsea (Aaron) Grise, Caleb (Jennifer) Oxendale, Great Grandchildren Jac and Ryan Regan, Christopher and Luke Grise.  Sisters Jerri Lou (Stewart) Horton, Judy (Dick) McKinney, Brother Jack Oxendale and many nieces and nephews.
