Edward (Mike) Schewe

Edward Michael (Mike) Schewe

Madison, WI

Edward Michael (Mike) Schewe, died in the early morning of Sunday, March 1, 2015.  He was 72.  The direct cause of death was pneumonia.

Mike was born March 20, 1942, in Lansing, Michigan, to Bob and Jean Schewe.  He married Janet (Berryman) Schewe on March 20, 1965.  He attended Lansing Eastern High School, Lansing Community College, and the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and worked at Oldsmobile for 34 years until his retirement in 1999.  Jan and Mike moved from Lansing to Madison, WI in 2000.

He struggled with a progressive neurological disease, Charcot-Marie-Tooth syndrome, his entire life, which did not cause pain but did require care.  For the last seven years, he required full nursing care and was a resident at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison.

Mike was an active church member throughout his life, and was a mentor, coach, and friend to many.

He was an incredibly positive, outgoing, warm, and loving person who took the time to know everybody. He was quick with a joke, loved to tell stories, and was generous with praise to his family and friends.  He remained that way right up to the end.

Mike Schewe was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Nathan. He is survived by his wife Janet; sons Jim (Carol Roan) and Craig (Melinda); grandchildren Ben, Ted, Maddy, Ryan, and Rachel; siblings Steve (Nancy), Ron (Linda), Dan (Kathy), Herb, and Betty Vickers (Tom); numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and friends beyond count.

His family wishes to express gratitude to his many friends for their love and support, and also to the staff at St. Mary's for years of loving care.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday March 6, 2015 at BETHANY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 3910 Mineral Point Road, Madison with Rev. Greg Jewison and Rev. Brad Mather presiding.  A visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
